In June 2008, STLD Sponsors Clay Paky will be hosting their first lighting awards event, as announced last year at the ABTT 2007 exhibition.
The event will be known as The Clay Paky Knight of Illumination for the Year 2007, in association with the ALD and the STLD.
The ABTT exhibition will be held on 11th and 12th June 2008 at The Royal Horticultural Halls in Westminster and the presentation will be held on 11th June; please check here for more details of how to attend when they are released.
They would like to give recognition to lighting excellence in Television, Theatre and for Live Events, and have invited the STLD to help them gather the TV nominations to offer a judging panel.

Making Light Work Week 2008
We would like to produce a sort of census of the state of the TV Lighting business in 2008, by looking at what Members and Sponsors are doing during one week in 2008. The chosen week is March 24th - 30th, the week after Easter. We are asking all members and Sponsor companies to produce a diary or blog of what they are doing during that week.
Breakfast Time crew
Can anyone tell me who lit the first transmission of BT? There was a celebration of it's 25th birthday recently and those present are intersted to collect the crew names!

AC North Show 2008
Building on the success of last year’s A.C. Lighting North Tradeshow, which saw attendance levels up by 30%, the 2008 show takes place in a new exhibition hall with 40% more space to provide an increased exhibitor line-up and visitor capacity.
The event takes place on 29th and 30th April in the Saviles hall at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, which is adjacent to the original location and now the city’s largest exhibition venue.
As well as accommodating the show’s expansion plans, the improved facilities also enable the organisers to provide the main exhibition, complementary theatre seminars programme and buffet lunch with a bar and dining area all within the same hall.
Showlight 2009
BBC Scotland's new state of the art headquarters in Glasgow, which boasts the latest broadcast technology and is the biggest TV recording space to be built in Scotland and the second largest TV studio in Britain, is to host the 2009 Showlight event.
Set on the banks of the River Clyde, the BBC’s new high definition television studio complex was opened by the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, on September 20 and is a bold departure from traditional TV studio premises.
Showlight 2009 will take place from May 16 to 19 and will be of interest not only to TV lighting directors, but anyone involved with entertainment and architectural lighting design. The BBC’s high definition equipment will be utilised to illustrate papers from all genres of lighting, including theatre, film, event, education, architecture and, of course, television.
STLD Diary misprint?
STLD members should all have received their smart new 2008 diaries by now - however we have had a single report of a printing problem, in that the pages go straight from March 2nd to October 13th, then at the end of the year they go back to October 13th again.
We think this was an isolated incident as we have heard nothing till now, but would be grateful if you could check your copy for that or any other binding problems. If it has happened more than once we need to know in order to rectify the situation. And if anyone has not received their diary please contact us too!
Contact us via the Membership Query section if you have a faulty diary!
